Lund – A city full of possibilities

Among cobblestones and half-timbered houses, the medieval city of Lund is merged with modern buildings and innovative environments. The ties to the University are plentiful and the large number of students add their touch to the city.

The beautiful city of Lund is in the heart of the Öresund Region. Pulsating with history and culture, Lund offers a wealth of attractions for international visitors. Enjoy a range of experiences from restaurants, shopping, museums, entertainment and several hotels; all within walking distance. Famous for its University, Lund’s 40,000 students help create a vibrant and multicultural environment. The architecturally striking city centre has plenty of meeting places and green areas including the beautiful Botanical Gardens, the City Park and  “Lundagård” park. The famous cathedral, ”Domkyrkan”, has fascinated visitors since the 12th Century and is the most popular attraction in southern Sweden with its 700,000 visitors each year.

History meets the future

Founded in the 11th Century, Lund is one of Sweden‘s oldest towns. Today, history and tradition meet innovation and the future. Renowned for its visionary thinking, Lund established one of the region’s first coin factories and the oldest Nordic school, ”Katedralskolan” in 1085. The Cathedral was built in the 12th Century and Lund University opened as Sweden‘s second institute of higher learning in 1666.

The mix of Middle Age and modern architecture is home to high-tech industry and a large graduate population. Inventions such as Bluetooth, the artificial kidney, and ultrasound were all researched here. That innovation will continue at Medicon Village, Ideon Science Park and two world-leading science institutions, Max IV and ESS, put Lund on the international map.
