Lund – Where history and innovation meet
The beautiful city of Lund is in the heart of the Öresund Region, in close proximity to Copenhagen and the international airport.
Founded in the 11th Century, Lund is one of Sweden‘s oldest towns. Today, history and tradition merge with innovation shaping the future. Renowned for its visionary thinking, Lund established one of the region’s first coin factories and the oldest Nordic school, ”Katedralskolan” in 1085. The Cathedral was built in the 12th Century and Lund University opened as Sweden‘s second institute of higher learning in 1666.
The mix of Middle Age and modern architecture is home to high-tech industry, with global inventions such as Bluetooth, the artificial kidney, and ultrasound all researched here. Innovation continues at Medicon Village, Ideon Science Park and the two world-leading science institutions Max IV and ESS, the two closest neighbours to this year’s Global Forum venue, The Loop.
