Diagonal Bios vd om bolagets diagnostikplattform

10 juni, 2021

Firstly, could you tell us a bit more about yourself and your professional background?

– I have two wonderful kids at the age of 14 and 16, based in central Copenhagen and I focus on a fit, active and healthy lifestyle to ensure I keep young at heart and mind despite my 45 years of age.

– I have a unique background that spans both the commercial (Business Administration from Copenhagen Business School) as well as the scientific (Ph.D. in Biotechnology from Copenhagen University). After my academic career which took me to the position as an associated professor at Copenhagen University within gene discovery, I spent roughly 10 years in the private sector in different commercial and managerial roles within startup, CRO, food and pharma.

The company is fairly young, yet you expect to initiate commercial activities within the next couple of years. Can you tell us more about that journey and how you expect to realise your plans?

– Diagonal Bio is already working with strong collaborators and will continue on the same path to deliver an easy-to-use, cost-efficient, quick and accurate diagnostics platform for detection of all types of pathogens, Panviral, which will be manufactured and distributed via industrial partners.

Apart from covid-19, what pathogens are you currently able to detect with the platform?

– We have already tested bacteria, viruses and fungi to show the robustness of the assay and we are now conducting a survey with medical doctors to narrow down the specific diseases and pathogens to focus on in the initial phase.

What interest have you seen so far in your technology?

– There is massive interest in the idea of bringing the current gold standard of diagnostic to point of care as evident by the circa 10 MSEK which was raised from private investors in 2020.

You are now carrying out a share issue of circa 40,1 MSEK, how will this money be used?

– We are currently implementing a quality management system (QMS) and plan to start the regulatory process as well as clinical studies in different disease arrears.

After the launch, what are the next steps in developing the platform?

– Following the launch of Panviral, we foresee a wide range of future product formats for several diseases as well as parallel and multiple patient testing.

You aim to reach break-even with a turnover of 32 MSEK already in 2023. What needs to happen for that to become reality?

– I foresee two essential points. A smooth and efficient regulatory process, together with an efficient commercially viable manufacturing and scale-up.
